Excercises for Part I
Below is a file that contains all the documents for this excercise.
This will already be pre-installed in each IU computer. Should somebody
accidentally delete any file pertaining to this excercise from the
hard drive, it can still be downloaded in this section.
download win file: 1_exe.zip
Excercise:
- Create /1_exe/ folder inside the student directory.
- Pretend that you work for a graphics designing company by the
name of EXE1 Graphics Centre (EGC). EGC executives want to find
out how much their favorite ISP, Blue Sky Associates (BSA), would
bite off their sales if you avail of the ISP's e-commerce solution
package. The set up fee is free of charge, but BSA will be charging
$1 + 7.5% of item price per transaction. You want to check transaction
deductions on a per item basis so you open 1_exe.xls on
MS Excel. The rest is up to your skills at computation. Fill in
the blanks as quickly as you can.
- You have finished computations on Excel. Now you want to write
a letter to the BSA's customer representative, to ask for a discount
on the transaction charges. Open 1_exe.doc on MS Word.
You will have to copy the the computation table from 1_exe.xls
and paste that (from Cell A1 to Cell C10) onto 1_exe.doc. A written
indicator will tell you where to paste the copied objects.
- Go to the sentence before the statement "Thank you very
much". The last word is "here". Create a hyperlink
from that word that would lead to 1_exe.xls.
- You are not content with how the letter looks. The current template
is Elegant Letter. Change the template from Elegant Letter
to Contemporary Letter. (Location of Contemporary Letter
is at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\Letters &
Faxes\Elegant Letter.dot)
- Now that you have finished the letter, you are ready to send
an email to BSA. Open Microsoft Outlook, compose an imaginary
message to BSA's representative and attach the two documents (1_exe.doc
and 1_exe.xls) to your mail. Open your calendar and create a new
task titled "Request Discount from BSA". Fill in the
appropriate fields (depending on what attributes you want to assign
to the task).
- Remember to check your attachments for virus.
- Send the email to [instructor's web-based email here].
