Inception

I do not normally watch last full shows but because I attended my boss's exhibit before the movie schedule, I had to adjust my body clock. I was afraid I might fall asleep.

Thank goodness, Christopher Nolan made THAT impossible. Inception was so riveting (and action packed!) I forgot that it was way past my bedtime. It's been a long time since a movie has kept me thinking every step of the way. Every scene has to have some sort of a puzzle or a twist. It also helps that the casting was spectacular. I'm not a huge Leonardo DiCaprio fan, but I must say he had outdone himself yet again. His team of dream travelers, composed of Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Ellen Page and Dileep Rao, also have great chemistry.

I love it!

My friends Dan H. and Caloi couldn't stop talking about it on the way home. At home, I couldn't sleep. Couldn't stop thinking about so many possibilities! I can't exactly compare it with The Matrix and The Prestige but it's just as thought-provoking and exciting.

It also just hit me that many of my all-time favorite movies were directed by Christopher Nolan! (The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight)

Food for thought: We watched this in "Digital 2D". Working in the multimedia industry, I find this movie categorization mighty strange. Although I noticed that the images are very crisp and clear...do they mean "digitally remastered"? Or is this a marketing ploy for regular non-multimedia folks to fork over an additional P40?

  1. I agree with you a 100%! I was like, "There should be a pause button!" The concepts were so intriguing and mind-blowing that I wanted to stop for a moment and think it through.

    Hahaha, I loove Prestige too! Until now I'm still thinking bout the ending - was it real magic or just an illusion? Memento's pretty good as well.

    Napanood nyo na po Insomnia ni Nolan? If so, is it also good?

  4. my class in VFS calls this a huge VFX reel. we sort of started to watch films technically now, like how that shot was done, or how they did a couple of frames on this shot wrong...it's starting to get annoying watching films this way. hahaha! takes the fun out of watching really well written films like this one too. :P

    so i will save my 15 dollars and just wait for the DVD so i can play...pause...get confused in some story twist or puzzle...rewind...find the answer...forward...resume play while enjoying the film in the comforts of my own home, hahaha :)

    It's great to experience on the big screen, so watch it there. Honestly, when people get too technical, you lose any sense of creativity. While I like details, I hate it when the details destroy a concept.

    Watch it for the mind-boggler that it is. Although...I don't quite get what they mean when they said "Digital 2D". In our field, when we say traditional 2D, we mean animation with key animators and lots of in-betweeners (even though we mostly do our DIPs and compositing with Adobe products). When we do digital 2D, we mean 2D that's been done totally with software like Flash. So what do they mean by "Digital 2D"? Is that an excuse to charge us P40 more? Or do they mean it's been digitally remastered?

  6. hmmm, "Digital 2D" means the sound is digital sound quality (better speakers), which is actually becoming the standard quality of movies now. some theaters have "Digital 3D" which means same quality as "Digital 2D" and you need those 3D glasses to watch it as well, but the theater is not an IMAX theater. then there's "IMAX 3D" which is even more expensive cause you are paying to see the film in the actual IMAX cinema.

    yeah, getting too technical makes you lose sense of the creativeness in everything...that's why i would rather watch this one in a smaller screen :)

    LOL! I had to explain a lot of stuff to people. And my sister says she gets even confused when people ask her.

    Wow, does this mean I'm not bobo? Since I don't really have questions except...stuff about my own existence. And that blasted ending. Hahahahahaha!

    As for digital 2D...I think they should not call it that. Especially if it's only about the sound quality and if it's going to be standard. My mind kept wrapping around visual concepts so I thought it might have something to do with 2D visuals.

  8. with the birth of the blu-ray, 3D movie and 3D televisions, four color pictures or digital film and digital sound, yeah, it can get kinda confusing. but yeah, these terms like 2D, 3D, digital, analog and all the other terms we use mean differently in the realms of film, sound, animation, web, video...all realms @.@

    Exactly. I think it's sort of deceiving, especially for consumers who are not well-versed with the terms we use. Heck, I am in this industry and I even got confused (since we use these terms differently from the lay peeps) so I figured marketing were behind this idea.

  10. yeah, we can blame technology as well...it keeps changing. supposedly making it better, making the entertainment experience better by adding these things. engineers, movie producers, directors, visual fx people, animators...they...we all love it. we want to make the first of its kind type of film or project. then it becomes the benchmark then everybody wants to be that or have that sound quality or that ground breaking effects in that film. then theaters have to change to accommodate those changes...all because the directors or movie makers want the people to experience their film the best possible way :)

    that's why i really pick which films i want to watch in the big screen. do i want to see it for the sound, the FX or animation, the actor (rarely), or the story? some films i can wait or would rather watch in the comforts of my home :)

    sometimes, i simply decide to watch a movie with friends for the whole going out and having fun experience. that experience is i guess worth paying extra for :)

  11. as per my understanding of this digital 2d, it differs from the regular cinemas by means of projectors, digital cinema uses high definition digital projectors which could be at 4K. Di ba resolution starts with 320x240 for the old vcd format, then 720x480 sa dvd, 1366x768 for HD, then 1920x1080p for FULL HD.

    Digital 2d cinemas uses 2k 2048x1080 or 4K 4096/2160.

    So apparently the full HD that's very common on HDTVs are very distinct on how they played it on digital 2d. Instead of the 35mm films, it's projected from a computer or any device. it's like we're on your hucomin class with your projector connected to a computer or something using a high def 4K projector.

    So yun,may sense ba ko? haha.

  12. Lookit that? Papavik and Ronn are both from the multimedia industry and they have different answers. Kaloka di ba?

    This is where the POVs are coming from: Papavik is in animation and Ronn used to do video production. My fields are both web and game design (mostly concentrating on 2D games). This is exactly why I think these marketing peeps should be careful with their terminologies. If it's high definition, can't they just say HD? Or if you're taking about the projector lumens, Ronn, then shouldn't they pertain to that?

    "Digital 2D" is just waaaay too weird and overly general.

  15. Syempre miss yun muna. Pag gumana yun, mag aassemble din ako ng team ko. Tapos magtataym travel kami. Then, maybe we'll change something from the Philippines'history, like the 'comfort women'. Ipaplant namin sa minds ng mga Japanese na hindi pwede iforce ang mga Filipina sa sexual activity kundi ma-aactivate ang ating 'vagina dentata'.
