2 Exhibits: The Library's Attic at SDA and 13 Artists at CCP

The Library's Attic
Rocco texted me on the day itself so I wasn't able to bring my sister, who had missed going to exhibits so much.  I was supposed to just go straight to the 13 Artists Exhibit at CCP, but of course, Rocco is practically family.

So many things had changed at SDA. I saw a lot of unfamiliar faces. I was glad that Rocco's group mates were actually students from my diamond WEBDEV3 classes -- the last batch of WEBDEV3 students I handled. They also happen to be arguably the best. Unfortunately, very few of them recognized me immediately. Clarissa Crisologo had to stare at me long and hard before she realized that I was Ms. Bea and not an MMA student. Christina Chua and Jocelyn Go's excuse was, "Sorry, Miiiiissss! You looked so young kasi we didn't think it was you!"

(Ah, so dati pala mukha akong matrona? Hahahahahahaha! In fairness to these kids, my looks really do change depending on the hairstyle I'd be sporting. I remember one time, I wore this wig during course cards distribution. Gini Salamat had been looking for me for about an hour before she started complaining, "Asan na si Ms. Bea, kanina pa ako andito!" One kid pointed to me. I had been in front of her the whole time.)

Marc Ti, Patrick Ong, Criselle Gokian and Hsiang Lee were the ones who instantly recognized me. Marc was quick to ask about some PHP codes he was working with and Patrick complained about me not handling WEBDEV3 anymore. Criselle looks so much like a lady now. She used to be so cute and bubbly and full of questions about how to make more money through the web. They're thinking of starting a business, which didn't surprise me because Criselle had always been enterprising. She was one of those who promptly applied web business principles as soon as she learned them. She picked up a client the day after I taught them how to build databases.

Barbs was the proud mama that night.  She eagerly showed me the portfolios, although I already expected them to be really good. These were my best students, after all.  Rocco wasn't happy with his work, though, and I completely understand. His portfolio got corrupted so he did what he could in a week's time.

Gosh. I actually missed SDA. But since these are the last of the students I've handled then, I suppose my last remaining connection with the school will also end upon their graduation.  Congratulations, guys!  I know you'll do well in your careers.

13 Artists Awards at CCP
Probably one of the best exhibits I've seen.  Cris and I weren't able to make it to the opening but I suppose it's just as well that the crowd was dissipating when we arrived.  We were able to explore the space without being elbowed.  My favorite pieces:

  • Winner Jumalon's painted house. That was just awesome! I couldn't get enough of it. The only reason I had to move away was that I was getting high from the smell of paint. Hehe.
  • Don Salubayba's. Ok, this may be strange but I just love the colors of his work. The textures look as if they were jumping at me.
  • Pamela Yan Santos'. Layers. Gotta love them.

it's actually a lot of fun, being invisible like that. pati si Dr. Tan nabiktima. kulot yung buhok ko tapos nag greet ako sa kanya. tapos ang laki laki ng ngiti niya, kala niya kung sino. then later, mrs. africa pointed out to him na ako yun. and to think i meet with him every thursdays ha. hindi daw niya ako na-recognize nung kulot yung buhok ko kasi lagi naman daw naka-pony tail ako during meetings. (eh bumabalik na sa kulot yung hair ko...wala na ako pera pang-rebond.)

Uy andun ka pala? Sayang di tayo umabot. I was at the 14th floor the whole day checking midterm OJT requirements. I visited the exhibit when they were about to close up.
